In December 1971, Congress enacted the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). This act created a mechanism for economic development in Alaska. NANA Regional Corporation was formed as one of the 13 Native-owned regional corporations created by ANCSA.
The NANA Region is a vast expansion of approximately 38,000 acres, located mainly above the Arctic Circle in Kotzebue, Alaska. It has a population of 7,200 people, who live in a total of 11 communities or villages. Reliance on the land remains a way of life for the Inupiat people. Jobs in the region are very limited and usually related to government funded positions such as the post office, the school district, and health service.
Some of the NANA shareholders live outside the NANA Region; there are a total of 11,400 Inupiat shareholders. Not only do NANA businesses bring revenue back to Alaska and its shareholders, but it provides many job opportunities to the Alaska Natives as well.
NANA Services, LLC is proud to be one of many NANA companies.
